  Reps probe tax law tweaks, PDP demands suspension The House of Representatives on Thursday constituted an ad hoc committee to probe the alleged discrepancies in the tax reforms passed by the parliament and the official gazetted copy currently in circulation across government agencies. This was as the Peoples Democratic Party demanded that the Federal Government further shift forward by six months the  January 1, 2026 take-off of the new tax law.   TikTok strikes US joint venture deal to avoid ban TikTok said Thursday it has signed a joint venture deal with investors that would allow the company to maintain operations in the United States and avoid a ban threat over its Chinese ownership. According to an internal memo seen by AFP, TikTok CEO Shou Chew told employees that the social media company and its Chinese owner ByteDance had agreed to the new entity, with Oracle, Silver Lake and Abu Dhabi-based MGX on board as major investors. Oracle’s executive chairman and founder Larry Ellison is a longtime ally of US President Donald Trump. Chew told staff that half the US venture will be held by a consortium of new investors including Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX — which will have 15 percent each. Affiliates of existing ByteDance investors will own a touch over 30 percent of the venture, with Bytedance retaining just shy of 20 percent, the maximum ownership allowed for a Chinese company under the terms of the law.

Confirming the development on Wednesday night, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the aircraft and personnel had been released. The confirmation came after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Yusuf Tuggar, on Wednesday met Burkina Faso junta leader, Mr Ibrahim Traoré, in Ouagadougou. Tuggar, who led a Nigerian delegation, said during a press briefing that the visit was at the instance of President Bola Tinubu. The incident occurred nearly two weeks ago when a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft, with 11 soldiers on board, made a forced landing in Bobo Dioulasso while on a ferry mission to Portugal.
